چکیده

A new method for image clustering with density maps derived from Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) is proposed together with a clarification of learning processes during a construction of clusters. Simulation studies and the experiments with remote sensing satellite derived imagery data are conducted. It is found that the proposed SOM based image clustering method shows much better clustered result for both simulation and real satellite imagery data. It is also found that the separability among clusters of the proposed method is 16% longer than the existing k-mean clustering. It is also found that the separability among clusters of the proposed method is 16% longer than the existing k-mean clustering. In accordance with the experimental results with Landsat-5 TM image, it takes more than 20000 of iteration for convergence of the SOM learning processes. Keywords—SOM clustering; Density map; Boundary image; Labeling algorithm

Contextual clustering for image labeling: an application to degraded forest assessment in Landsat TM images of the Brazilian Amazon

The Modified Adaptive Pappas Clustering (MPAC) algorithm, recently published in the image processing literature, is proposed as a valuable tool in the analysis of remotely sensed images where texture information is negligible. Owing to its contextual, adaptive, and multiresolutional labeling approach, MPAC preserves genuine but small regions, is easy to use (i.e., it requires minor user interac...

Mapping Evapotranspiration Coefficients in a Temperate Maritime Climate Using the METRIC Model and Landsat TM

The applicability of a land surface temperature (LST)-evapotranspiration (ET) regression model to estimate ET fraction (ETrF) was tested in the temperate maritime climate of Central Ireland. In this study, the Mapping ET at high Resolution and with Internalized Calibration (METRIC) model was applied to calculate evapotranspiration from a mixed land cover area in Central Ireland. The ETrF values...

Clustering and Mapping Spatial-Temporal Datasets Using SOM Neural Networks

Large datasets can be analyzed through different linear and nonlinear methods. Most frequently used linear method is Principal Component Analysis (PCA) known also as EOF (Empirical Orthogonal Function) analysis, permitting both clustering and visualizing high-dimensional data items. However, many problems are nonlinear in nature, so, for analyzing such a problems some nonlinear methods will be ...

Application of a Self-Organizing Map for Clustering the Groundwater Quality in Kerman Province and Assessment its Suitability for Drinking and Irrigation Purposes

Evaluation of groundwater hydro chemical characteristics is necessary for planning and water resources management in terms of quality. In the present study, a self-organizing map (SOM) clustering technique was used to recognize the homogeneous clusters of hydro chemical parameters in water resources (including well, spring and qanat) of Kerman province; then, the quality classification of groun...
